The date was 16th of August and the time was
around 4:30 am IST. Then something happened which we all named ‘Google Blackout’.
The next day I read on the newspaper that it killed almost 40% of the world’s
net traffic in just two minutes and the whole incident happened for about 4
minutes. It took the headlines of the next day but it intrigued me of
something, what if it wasn't just 2 minutes?
Now let me be direct and come straight to the point. One
thing that can be seen and felt around is we are too much dependent on this
internet stuff. Imagine a day without checking your Facebook Wall, or your
tweets or the pictures of those delicious dishes people post (I still don’t know
why) on Instagram. But I won’t say that gone were the days where people used to
do this and that without the internet. I am no different than any of us. All these
things have occupied a huge chuck of our life and frankly speaking there’s no
way going out of it. But don’t you think all this have really affected our capability
of thinking?
To support my fact just try this out. Give your friend just
a general topic to speak to, any general topic, and ask him/her to speak any 10
lines on it. I can bet a thousand bucks and tell you that the first thing that
will strike the mind of our orator will be “Wish I could Google it.” All that thinking just stops and no thoughts
will come of that topic but yes, every other bullshit will just hover in your
mind. Isn't it true? Thanks to the
regular ‘posts’ (which we don’t have anything to do with), ‘likes’ and ‘comments’,
our attention span has become quite like a donkey. (No offense)
So, now that I have laid the truth, the other thing comes, “What
can we do about it?” Well, my dear readers there’s one thing for sure, if it weren’t
for internet, you all wouldn’t be reading this post, right? So yes, we can’t
completely neglect the internet; frankly speaking it’d be impossible. But we
can do one thing, and yes, that is an effective one. Just take out one hour from your precious day and switch off all the
gadgets and everything and now just focus on your goal, think of something
creative, think of anything innovative just think. Block out one hour everyday
and it will truly help you stay witty and sharp. Plus there’s no harm in
doing this no? It will actually give you some piece and will totally rejuvenate
you.
